Arise Africa Fashion Week

Last night i attended David Tlale's show at the Arise Africa Fashion Week at the Sandton Convention Centre. He approached our second and third year graphic design group at tech earlier this year and asked us to design patterns for fabric to use in his line. My design wasnt chosen but i went along anyway (because i'd give my left tooth to go!) and it was pretty amazing despite having to wait 2 hours for the show. Diva's!

New Holland is Rocking Socks

New Holland are one of those South African bands you dont see all the time. They look like theyve just rolled out of the UK with their extremely put together look.. And that is an incredibly good thing in this country given we have artists who dress up in khaki and leopard print. Thats what i've noticed about SA bands in the past, they dont look like theyre a unit. Half the time it looks like you've taken 4 guys out of 4 different bands and just mashed them together. But New Holland on the other hand is so fashion forward in my opinion. The guys all have a seperate sense of style but they form a unit. And i just saw their music video for 'Uhuru' this morning.. i honestly thought it was an English or American band because the video was just so good! And their previous video was also very well done. South African music videos used to be horribly bad back in the day, but like one of my friends says, the channel MK and the kind of people involved witht that effort has changed that alot. SA music vids are becoming increasingly amazing and the standard is rising all the time.

Scrapyard Lovin

So i went to a scrapyard for the first time ever this morning (i mean when else would i ever need to go to a scrapyard?! i aint no grease monkey!) to shoot for our new photography project. And it was pretty fascinating! All the textures and stuff... Makes for some pretty interesting photographs.

So i decided to pick up the ol' charcoal and draw again... I havent been in the mood for ages upon ages since tech has been so hectic! Presenting Anton Newcombe from the Brian Jonestown Massacre... I didnt quite capture his look from the picture i was drawing from but for a quickie drawing i rate its not that bad.
